William "Bill" Thomas Karr, 79, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington, Nebraska, where he had been a resident for just a few days. He was born August 22, 1928, in Miller, Nebraska, to Guy Winfred and Mary Veronica (Curran) Karr. He attended his early elementary years in Overton, Nebraska until his family moved to Lexington where he attended public school until graduating in 1948. As a young adult he worked for his father in the hay business. On November 27, 1955, he married Kay Ruth Yeiter in Cozad, Nebraska. They moved to a farm south of Cozad where Bill farmed for 45 years. Bill was married to Kay for 32 years, until her death in 1987. He then married Lois Lorraine Michel in January of 1989. He retired from farming in 1999, and moved to Lexington. Bill was active in 4-H and Sparerib Clubs. He held many offices in the Presbyterian Church through the years. He started Darr Packing in earlier years. He loved farm life, tending to the hogs and cattle. He was a caring and loving person all of his life. The family will really miss such a wonderful father, husband, and grandfather. "Farewell "Will". Daughters: Nancy & John Abel of Montrose, Colorado, Kelly & Steve Schneider of Grand Island, Nebraska. Seven grandchildren: Kelsey, Jana and Matt Karr of California; Katie & Holly Abel of Montrose, California; Tucker Tomasek of Monroe, Washington; Trista Tomasek of Kansas City, Missouri. One great-grandson: Seth Karr of California. One sister: Vivian Grange of Hood River, Oregon. A Nephew: Jack Lhotak of Lexington, Nebraska. Bill was preceded in death, in addition to his first wife, by his parents and six sisters. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverends Caroline Vickery and Ron Roemmich officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or the Donor's Choice. Lorraine Warner, 77, of Gothenburg, died on May 18, 2008 at Gothenburg. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, with Lonna Grabenstein, PMA officiating. Burial will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Visitation was on Tuesday, May 20, at the American Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Ben of Gothenburg; two sons Lonnie (Sandy) Warner; Brad (Michele) Warner, all of Gothenburg; three daughters, Patricia (Duane) Stevens of Sumner, Linda (Eldon) Rodine of Gothenburg, Pamela (Michael) Houchin of Gothenburg; one brother Marion Johnson of Curtis; one sister Elaine (Bill) Holliday of Lexington; ten grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Charles) Taylor, Derek Rodine, Kiel (Lacey) Stevens, Kasia Stevens, Adam and Caleb Warner, James (Mia) Houchin, Travis Houchin, Joseph and Raymond Warner; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Jerold; a sister-in-law Retha Johnson; and a grandson Joshua Dale Warner. Lorraine Margaret was born on Oct. 15, 1930 at Freedom, to Knowles and Lillian (Johnson) Bush. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Bartley and attended school at Farnam. She lived at Farnam and Lexington. She graduated in 1948 from Lexington High School. On Aug. 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Ben Warner at Lexington, and to this union five children were born. Lorraine worked at Evans Bakery, Slacks Nursing Home and Hilltop Estates. Norma Louise Rickel, 77, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. She was born February 4, 1930, at Medicine Lodge, Kansas, to Gerald and Edith (Saal) Young. Norma moved to many different towns, because of her father's job, prior to coming to Lexington as a sophomore in high school. She graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1948. Following graduation, she worked at Cozad State Bank. Norma was united in marriage to Richard Rickel on June 11, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this union; Sue, Jim, and Jeri. Following the couple's marriage, Norma worked for Lessig's Tots & Teens and spent 25 years with the Platte Valley Collection Agency. Dick and Norma were licensed HAM Radio operators with the call letters, WD0CJH. She was a member of Dawson County #33, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Gopher Smokers. Norma enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, Nebraska football, going to McDonald's for her twice a day "coke fix" and people watching at Walmart. She enjoyed going for rides and being with friends at the Lexington Fitness Center. She will be so very missed. Survivors include her husband: Richard Rickel of Lexington, Nebraska. One son: Jim (Natalie) Rickel of Lexington, Nebraska. Two daughters: Jeri (Dave) Jaixen of Grand Island, Nebraska Sue Hedges of Waterloo, Nebraska. One brother: Dr. Gerald, Jr. and wife, Lee Young of Barrington, Illinois. Seven grandchildren: Matt (Leslie) Irwin of Omaha, Nebraska; Becky (Rocky) Doerr of Andover, Minnesota; Carissa (Kyle) Stritt of Kearney, Nebraska; Beth Jaixen of Phoenix, Arizona; Brandon Howell of Lincoln, Nebraska; Josh Irwin of Des Moines, Iowa; and Trisha Rickel of Lexington, Nebraska. Three great-grandchildren: Abby and Kaitlyn Doerr and Avery Stritt. Norma was preceded in death by her parents. Norma's body was cremated. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 21, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Todd Karges officiating. A Memorial Book Signing will be held Sunday, January 20, 2008, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Barbara MacLean, 75, of Wymore died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 2006, at the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Wymore United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Richard Sykes officiating. Burial will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the service. Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include her husband, Charles MacLean; three sons, Kemmit (Kimberly) MacLean of Sumter, S.C., Chauncey MacLean and his special friend Michelle Barden of Seattle, Wash., and Greg (Nancy) MacLean of Lincoln; a niece whom they raised, Jeneta (Chris) Smith of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Suzanna, Madison, and Jackson MacLean; two step grandchildren, Misty and Tanea Clover; four step great-grandchildren; a brother, Jeffrey (Sue) Jensen of Parker, Colo.; two sisters, Marilyn (Norman) Nelson of Springview; and Elaine Shanks of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Lin Jensen of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Dorothy Naugle of Hooversville, Pa.; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Viola Jensen; a brother, Bruce Jensen; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Shanks. Barbara was born Dec. 22, 1930, on a farm near Cozad to Uffe and Beuhla (Boggs) Jensen, where she spent most of her childhood. She moved to Lexington when she was in the tenth grade and was a 1948 graduate of Lexington High School. She attended Grand View College in Des Moines and Kearney State College. She taught rural school in Dawson County. On June 6, 1954, she married Charles MacLean at Lexington. They lived in Japan, Kearney, Lincoln, Alma, Pawnee City and moved to Blue Springs in 1964, where they established the Pinecrest Tree Farm. She served as the general manager until they moved to Wymore in 1995. She then assisted her husband in the Homestead Fence Company, which was operated from their residence. Barbara was an active member of the Wymore United Methodist Church, where she served as president of the United Methodist Women, served as delegate to the Nebraska Annual Conference, and also served on every board and committee within the Wymore church. She was also district president of the United Methodist Women, served as district membership, nurture, and outreach chairman, was chairman of the district nominating committee, and served as a Nebraska delegate of the United Methodist Women national convention. Together with her husband, they were members of the Nebraska Christmas Tree Growers Association and the National Christmas Tree Growers Association. She was a member of the Blue Springs Community Improvement. She worked with the Mother-To-Mother program, was a member of the Wymore Book Club, Friends of the Wymore Library, Break and Swing Square Dance Club at Wymore and the Rusty Gate Square Dance Club at Lexington, and was a past member of Chapter Q of P.E.O. Memorial to the establishment of an endowment fund for the Wymore United Methodist Church with Letha Boerrigter in charge.
