E. Ruth Carr, 70, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Monday, September 20th, 2010, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. Ruth was born September 11th, 1940, at Sumner, Nebraska, to Joseph and Rose (Fajmon) Snurr. She graduated from Lexington High School with the Class of 1958 with the love of her life, Dick. The couple was married February 5th, 1961, at Lexington. Two daughters were born to this union, Crystal and Kim. She worked for a time wrapping meat at Safeway and was a telephone operator for the telephone company. On July 5th, 1966, she was hired as a Program Technician for the ASCS office in Lexington and gradually worked her way up to the County Executive Director. She spent 38 years there retiring on September 3rd, 2004. Ruth cared about her clients deeply as well as her family and friends. Ruth was a diagnosed with cancer in 2002, through chemo and radiation and a six-month life expectancy, she was an eight year survivor. Ruth was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Ruth enjoyed reading, going to garage sales, golfing, crossword puzzles and spending time with her girls and their families. She was a wonderful confidante to many friends as well as family members. Survivors include her daughters, Crystal (Rodney) Sherman of Alda, Nebraska and Kim (Tim) Schoneman of Lexington; brother, Leonard (Edna) Snurr of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Hopkins of Des Moines, Iowa and Linda (Rich) Kennicutt of Lexington; five grandchildren, Stacey Schoneman of Omaha, Nebraska, Tyler Schoneman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Nicole Clemens of Lincoln, Tanner Carr and Matt Sherman both of Alda; mother-in-law, Dorothy Carr of Lexington. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick on August 20th, 2010; one sister, Margaret and one brother, Clarence. Funeral Services were Friday, September 24th, 2010, at 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Tess Hufford officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society-Dawson County Relay for Life or the donor's choice. Richard L. "Dick" Carr, 70, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, August 20, 2010, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. Dick was born December 5, 1939, at Parma, Idaho to Robert H. "Bob" and Dorothy (Koehn) Carr. He moved with his family to Lexington as a young boy and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1958. He was a member of the 1957 football team which resulted in his induction to the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame. His teammates always remained in his highest esteem. During school he was employed by Pfeiffer-Newman Funeral Home. After leaving the funeral home he spent an adventurous two years in Alaska which family and friends were privileged to hear a few good stories about now and then. Upon returning to Lexington he began selling insurance. He spent a number of years and was known for his skills in wood finishing, making custom golf clubs, house painting and finance. He wed Ruth Snurr, the love of his life, on February 5, 1961, in Lexington at the United Methodist Chapel. To this union were born two daughters, Crystal & Kim. He was blessed with five grandchildren who had him wrapped around their little fingers. Dick was known as a tough man's man with a quirky sense of humor, but those who knew him well were aware that he was a soft-hearted man. He was Ruth's Rock of Gibraltar throughout her cancer treatments. Many people came to him with their problems seeking advice or even assistance with bail. He was also known to voice his opinions whether popular or not. This is a trait that is now associated with the rest of the family. Dick was preceded in death by his father in 1986. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverend Tess Hufford officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2010, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Larry E. Erwin, 69 of Lincoln, died Aug. 6, 2008 in Lincoln. A private family memorial service was held. Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln was in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Georganne Erwin of Lincoln; son, Anthony "Chip" Erwin of Omaha; three daughters, Kimberly (Daniel) Lynn of Malcom, Deborah (David) Frye and Melinda (Scott) Hawco, all of Lincoln; sisters, Donna (Boyd) Ferguson of Lexington, Wanda (Jack) Welliver of Omaha; brother, Jim (Dottie) Erwin of Steele, N.D. Preceding him in death were his parents. Larry was born June 5, 1939 in Albany, Calif., to Don and Athalee (Orthman) Erwin. The family moved to Lexington in 1947, where he graduated in 1958 from Lexington High School. Feb. 16, 1963, he married Georganne Henry in Sterling, Colo. The couple made their home in Kearney, where he attended and graduated from Kearney State College. They later moved to Lincoln. He was a member of Masonic Craftsmen Lodge #314, former member of Boy Scouts of America and a 9 Gallon Club Member of the Community Blood Bank. Memorials are suggested to the Community Blood Bank.
