Memorials for the Class of 1978
Ed “Eddie” Hernandez, 50, of Lexington, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at his home surrounded by his
family and friends.
A memorial mass will be held Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father
Jorge Canela officiating. Rosary will be held Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at 7 p.m. at St Ann’s Catholic Church.
Inurnment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Lexington.
Ed was born on June 30, 1960, in Sioux City, Iowa. Ed graduated from St. Ann’s High School in 1978.
Following high school he worked construction for a couple of years and then at New Holland until going into the
Army.
He enlisted in the Army on Aug. 22, 1980, and was honorably discharged Aug. 21, 1986. After his service to
his country in the Army, Ed lived in Washington and Idaho where he worked on the fire patrol and as a
lumberjack.
Ed married Dawne Edwards in April of 1997.
While living in Lexington Ed worked at Orthman Manufacturing as well as the Walmart Distribution Center in
North Platte as a forklift driver.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, fantasy football, coaching youth football, his beloved
Nebraska Cornhuskers and spending time with his friends. Ed had a great sense of humor and a heart of gold.
He would give you the shirt off his back.
Ed was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents, Joe and Angie (Munoz) Hernandez of Lexington; two sisters, Gerry Hernandez
of Arvada, Colo., Tricia (Scott) Latter of Holdrege; son, Dakota Hernandez, Dakota’s mother Dawne and his
grandparents, Barb and Jake; one stepson, Trevor Hallan of Lexington; daughter, Heather (Joel) Munro of
Belleville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jacob, Aubrie and Natalie; two nephews, Joel Latter and Casey Skiles; one
niece, Jessica Skiles as well as many cousins, other relatives and many friends. Also surviving are his loving
dogs, Husker and Yoda.
Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorials are suggested to the family for Dakota’s education.
